Huesca and the Chalice of Holy Supper
When we are reading something
that brought over Saint Grail, without no type of doubt, will be found us before
a based narration in historial facts, with objective demonstrations and contributions
that fluctuate, between the undesmostrable
tradition and the legend of Aragón that, furthermore had a great expansion by
all Europe. By a side, figure San Lorenzo and the caroligiam and morarab tradition
of Saint Juan de la Peña, and of other, the germanics mythes. All this, turnes
around a goblet of stone that -upon seeming- was the Chalice used by Christ
in Holy Supper. This Chalice, see manner of varied parts.
GOBLET,
that is worked in cherry-red carnelian, with grizzly veins. The dimensions are:
9.5 cm. of diameter in the mouth and 7 cm. of highness. It is proceeding from
an eastern grecian-romanesque factory and is dated between the centuries II-I
before C. .
FOOT, also of chalcedony, of ovoid form, like a little ship,
with overflows of gold, . .. It is from Córdoba workshop and it dates between
the centuries X to the XII. It have recorded an arab inscription, of rude execution
("lilzahira") that alludes to the palace of Medina Azzahara. It could
be made by an artisan of Aragón in Middle Age, but no in Saint Juán de la Peña,
therefore there only was Chalice in the current manner.
KNOT, the gold work, the stones (emeralds and berylliums) and
the pearls, are medieval. Emptied gemma, were an habitual practice of the centuries
XII and XIV. In the year 1.399, could have finished mounting the Chalice such
and as it is known today. It is guarded in the Capitulate Hall constructed in
Cathedral of Valence, since 1.536.
An esoteric version of the Grail, sustained that was Joseph of Arimatea, who
caught the goblet that served for Consecration in Holy (Last) Supper and filled
with the blood and the water that flow of the broadside of Christ, after Longinos
injure Him. But it seems more logical that this goblet was guarded by the owner
of the house ( disciple of Jesús ), after the rite of the supper, due to the
value material, but over all by immense spiritual recognition. Nevertheless,
little can affirm the vicissitudes of the Chalice, in these times and back.
The historic darkness will persist until 1.399.
Do not know how Chalice arrived at Rome, though all does to think that was thank
you to Saint Pedro ( first Pope ). To Huesca, would arrive with Saint Lorenzo,
two days before the martyrdom ( 10 of August of the 258); and in the year 713,
would be already in Saint Juan de la Peña. Also tell that, between the 712 and
713, it was carried with the Bishop Acisclo of Huesca, while he were fleeing
the invasion arab. Afterwards, would have a travel to Jaca ( Borau), Aljafería
of Zaragoza, Barcelona and, finally Valence. This tradition that has recounted
to be " contaminated" by that is born in Europe during Middle Age, with
a vision particular something of the Grail or "Graal" ,
As guess in: The epics poems of Christian of Troye; in the "Parcival" of the
Wolfram of Eschenbach or in the dramas of R. Wagner "Parsifal" and "Lohengrim".
.... The legend counted that in the Graal is guarded the blood that flows of
the wound of the broadside of Jesús, hurt by the centurión. The lance and the
goblet with Divine Blood, were ransomed by Titurel who, together to other gentlemans,
was converted in the guardian, in the top of the Montsalvat of Pyrenees, freeed
of the dominion arab. The sorceress Kundry, that made fun of Jesús when He was
going road of the Gólgota, was condemned to wander eternally by the earth, until
that somebody might redeem the guilt. This witch, together with other magicians
and wizards, had thrown a curse over Montsalvat, of mode that the blood of the
Redeemer not could realize the marvel of offering Spirit Saint to the guardians.
A young hero, called Parsifal, with the lance that injured to Christ, will terminate
with the bewitchment and will work the miracle.
There is a lot of Chalices distributed by all the geographies and many historic
personages related with they: The same Juan II, Martin el Humano, etc., .......
and enough authors and studious in the theme: Gaspar Escolano ( Century XVII
), J. Agustín Carreras, Ramírez y Orta ( canon of Zaragoza ), etc., ........
All they have written and contributed opinions; some, of scarce rigor historic,
as in the case of Carreras. But the majority coincide in that distinct pieces
that composed Chalice, in a determined moment, were unite in Saint Juan de la
Peña, where would be mounted by a goldsmith ( more french that mozarabic) in
the principles of the XIV century. Later, and by other hand, would be to it
applied the edge that has in the foot, with the pearls and stones. Thus was
as was, when died Martín el Humano in the year 1.410. Neither can be excluded,
that some of these manipulations might effect in Barcelona, during the years
that there remains Chalice, and that were the comprehended between 1399 and
1410.
