Suggestive
invitation place for a rest
It's a place of the province of Huesca,
located in the left margin of the Guatizalema river. Inhabitants:
around 130. Altitude: 429 meters on the level of the sea. It's from
Huesca 24 kilometers. Its inhabitans are named "salilleros".
To Salillas you shall arrive
by the A-1216 highway. The land is waved smoothly in the course under
the Guatizalema river, next to render its waters in the Alcanadre
river. Salillas will be the last urban nucleus that will be
reflected in these waters, based in the skirt of a minimum elevation
of the land, when are intuited in the distant the Monegros
plains. Huesca is only 24 kilometers far, by Sesa, Novales,
Albero Alto and Monflorite.
The place lost more than half of its
inhabitants throughout century XX. The 2004 census gave hardly numbers
of 115 inhabitants. In centuries XV and XVI there was a fire (a family)
only, but in the XVII they were gotten to join 24 already. Madoz
reviewed, in 1850, a total of 54 houses, 35 neighbors and 216 persons.
Salillas was path and group
of judges of Huesca, and formed City council in 1834 with the
round boundary of Armalé and Burjamán. Its first mention,
according to Ubieto, dates of 1104, with occasion of the concord
made by the bishop of Huesca and the abbot of Montearagón.
To this monastery its church belonged. In century XVI the Pomar
family controlled Salillas. In century XIX it was of the count
of Burette.
The parochial church is dedicated to
Santa Ana and occupies a building of relative interest, of
gothic style, located in a small extension of a corner of the square
of the town. There is a hermitage consecrated to San Felipe Neri
in 1717 also. In fact, all the buildings of the square respond to
the characteristics of the popular architecture of the region, without
great pretensions, in spite of the use, in many cases, of the ashlar
stone.
The access to the town is guessed from
the highway, since until the moment, does not exist any indicating
panel, reason why the traveller must walk alert, taking like reference
- if he comes from Sesa-, a robust construction, of defensive
aspect that is appraised in the left margin of the highway. Taken
that deflection, towards the left, by a slope more or less pronounced,
you arrive at the square of the town. It is an ample, landscaped space,
very well care, that gives an pleasant shade in the Summer. The houses
that coform the square, are new or very renovated, but of an excellent
aspect. In this pretty square is Casa Mairal, a very good “rural
house”. In the contiguous part to the access of this same square,
there is a great mansion, palace and strength.

This last construction seems to attribute
to the Marquess of Montemuzo (palace of the barony of Salillas);
its cover is Renaissance in which the shield of Pomar family
emphasizes in the cover (century XVI). It is based on a castle, in
that still conserves a tower, visible from the highway. To the entrance
of the population, a recovered "Pozo de Nieve" (Well
of Snow), of Moorish origin exists.
The bottom of the square, sight from
the palace, is crossed by a wide and long street of rectilinear passage,
that shows how its houses are taken care of. Few are the cross-sectional
streets that are born of this main one, as soon as some modest extension
with square pretensions breaks the norm of the street.
The festival town celebrations are
in honor of Santa Ana, patron of the church, the 26 of July.
There are other celebrations for the 26 of May in honor of San
Felipe Neri.
Thera are other festivals expressions
in Salillas also. One of it is local costum, and consists of
the positioning of the “Mayo”, - that is a high tree - generally black
poplar, devoid of branches except in the end- and that is celebrated
the night of Saturday to the Sunday de Pascua. Another is of
religious character, and is the procession to the hermitage of the
Jarea - in Sesa-, that takes place the first Monday and Tuesday
of Pascua.
Something of remains of romanesque
culture is possible that can have in Salillas. Somewhere the
existence of three Roman roads has been mentioned that run by the
town, and which apparently were hidden under the urban nucleus.
Salillas is a town more of the
Region of the Hoya (Hole) of Huesca that demands an attention
to the visitor, who with so as soon as a brief stroll will be comforted
of peace and calmness.
