Saint of the city of Huesca
Vincent was born in Huesca (the "Osca"
of the rormans) in the middle of the IIIth century; he was a son of
Christian parents. His mother was called Enola (which according to
some, she was the sister of the martyr Saint Lawrence) .and his father
was named Eutiquio (who had the title of consul). Lawrence
course studies and began his apostoltic activity in Zaragoza
(ancient and roman Caesaragusta). The life of Vincent have lapsed
in January 304 in the city of Valencia (the roman Valentia).
His feast is celebrated the same date and he is the older martyr known
of Hispania. In addition to be patron of the city of Huesca,
he is of Valencia and Portugal also. |
Thrown in a midden (trash can) was
defended by a crow, by what Daciano ordered to thrown him into the
sea in the interior of a water skin and with a millstone, but miraculously
he was returned to the shore on a nearby beach to Portus Sucronis
(current Cullera), where a woman named Jónica (Ionicia) hid
him until in the year 313 Constantine the Great promulgated the Edict
of Milan, and he may receive sepulture in a small church located on
the outskirts of Valencia that will receive the name of San
Vicente de la Roqueta. On the place where according to the tradition,
the waves of the sea returned the body of San Vicente to the
ground, there is a hermitage known with the name of San Lorenzo
Chapel. In the Cathedral of Valencia preserves the left arm
of the Protomartyr, regaled by Pietro Zampieri of the diocese of Padua
(Venice) on 22 January 1970. The relic is located in the Chapel of
the Resurrection located behind the high altar. The path that made
San Vicente Martir from Zaragoza (Caesaraugusta) passes
through Cariñena, Daroca, Forcall, Morella, Traiguera, where
it joins with the Via Augusta toward Sagunto and Valencia
and is supposed to be accomplished at the end of December 303 or first
of January of 304. In total between 750 and 800 kilometers facts to
feet in the middle of winter. |
